Richard Henry Pickard passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023 in Avon Park, Florida at the age of 94. The son of Gorman and May (Jessup) Pickard. He was born on July 23, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois. Richard was a proud Army veteran including (but not limited to) service in Europe and Vietnam. He retired after 20 years of service for his country, with several service, campaign, commendation medals, and the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. His education includes a bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago. He has a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alaska. Richard had a passion for teaching. He taught mathematics and computer sciences, for over 20 years, instructed at Sebring High School, South Florida State College and A.P.C.I. Richard was a consummate and voracious reader. His reading interests ranged from technical to science fiction. He played football in high school and competed in a semi pro league and was a rabid Chicago Bear fan for most of his life. He enjoyed classical music, cribbage, and chess. He is survived by his loving sons – Robert (Rick) E. Pickard (Pam) of Brooksville, FL; Richard Pickard (Judy) of Odessa, Florida; daughter – Deborah J. Morrisette (Jeff) of Alabama. Also surviving is one granddaughter – Tammy Church;  4 great grandchildren -Paul, Luke, Emily, and Sophia; 1 great-great grandson – Mason. Richard was preceded by his parents, 6 brothers and sisters, Ralph, Margaret, Ada Bernice, Russel, Anna Kate, George, and his wife, Dorothy.
