Winifred "Winie" Hart

WINIFRED ELLEN WINNIE HART Winifred Ellen Winnie Hart, 89, of Sebring, FL, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011, with her son William and his wife Alice at her bedside. She was born in Alma, MI on June 23, 1922. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Burton Hart, Sr. in 1967. She is survived by her son William B. Hart and his wife Alice of Sebring, FL; her daughter, Winelle Glaser (George Glaser) of Campton Hills, IL; five grandchildren, Jessica Glaser of New York City, NY; Bonnie Glaser of Chicago, IL; Abigail Glaser of Nashville, TN; Miranda Hart of St. Johns, MI and Christopher Hart of Cincinnati, OH. Winifred taught elementary school in Alma, MI from 1966 until her retirement in 1986. She then moved to Bradenton, FL, and eventually settled in Sebring, FL. She was an avid musician who played the organ for the Eastminster Presbyterian Church and the First Presbyterian Church in Alma, MI. She particularly enjoyed playing piano accompaniment for Alma Public School Band members in various music competitions throughout the state of Michigan. Winnie was a dedicated member of the P.E.O. Philanthropic Educational Organization (a sisterhood focusing on educational opportunities for female students worldwide) and an avid Mahjong player with the Friday afternoon Mahjong crowd at Chicanes Restaurant in Sebring. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Agnes Episcopal Church in Sebring, FL on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education (which provides need based grants to women in the U.S. and Canada whose education has been interrupted and who find it necessary to return to school to support themselves and/or their families), at: P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education, P.E.O. Executive Office, 3700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50312-2899. She will be buried beside her beloved husband, William B. Hart, Sr. in Riverside Cemetery in Alma, Michigan at a date yet to be determined.
