William Edward Wolcott

November 13, 1926 — November 24, 2012

William Edward "Bill" Wolcott, 86 of Sebring, Florida passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012 in Sebring, FL. He was born November 13, 1926 in Wye Mills, Maryland, the second of five children born to William and Rose (Cosden) Wolcott. Bill grew up in Wye Mills and graduated from the old Cordova High School. He attended Strayer Business College and then met his forever soul mate, Lydia Jane Mumper. They were married on January 10, 1948, a union that lasted for 63 years until Lydia's passing on April 25, 2011. Bill and Lydia made their home in Easton where they raised their family. Bill worked originally for the old Phillips Packing Company and then began his 40 year banking career with the original Easton National Bank and retiring from its' successor, Maryland National Bank as Sr. Vice-President for Commercial Lending. He cherished the many business and social acquaintances he made throughout his career, and he was well respected as a man of character, consideration and professionalism in all of his banking transactions. Bill had many interests. He was an avid waterfowl hunter and was the Secretary for the original Waterfowl Festival board. He served as Secretary and Chairman for the old Artisan's Festival that was held for a short period in Easton and, upon his retirement to Martingham, served as an officer of the Miles River Yacht Club. He was a Life Member of Easton Elks Lodge #1622. He raised Birmingham Roller pigeons for some time and loved spending time in his vegetable garden. His real love besides Lydia was music and the saxophone, and he was well known for his big-band the "Rhythm Knights" that played and entertained throughout the Mid-Shore in the 50's and early 60's with Lydia on the piano. He continued this passion on his retirement to Sebring as a member of the "Highlandaires". Bill was also an avid golfer, and after Lydia took up the game they enjoyed numerous golfing trips to different locations with their best friends Gordon and Mary Bell Callahan and Charles and Minnie Esther Parks. Bill is survived by his children, son David (Connie) of Denton, MD. son Kevin (Jackie) of Sebring, FL.; daughter Molly Starkey of Sebring, Fl.; sister, Grace DeBaufre of Horsham, PA. and two grandchildren, Adam and Andria Starkey of Sebring, FL. In addition to his wife Lydia, Bill was pre-deceased by his brother, David C. Wolcott and two sisters, Bette Gilbert and Ann Faulkner. A memorial service will be scheduled at Old St. Joseph's Church in Cordova at a future date to honor the memories of Bill and Lydia. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made in Bill's memory to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to: Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home Sebring, Florida 33870 863-385-0125
