WILLIAM D. MASSIE William D. Massie, 83, of Avon Park, FL, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010, in Sebring, FL. He was born May 10, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio, and had been a resident of Avon Park since 1994, coming from Kettering, Ohio. Bill retired from Standard Register Company in Dayton, Ohio in 1989, after being Manager of Mechanical Engineering for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, 3rd Infantry Regiment and was a member of the Old Guard, VFW and American Legion. He was very active in the Masonic Fraternity in the Dayton, Ohio area; was a member, Past Master and Past Treasurer of Far Hills Masonic Lodge #784 (formerly George L. Marshall Lodge #735) in Centerville, Ohio and served the Grand Lodge of Ohio as a District Deputy Grand Master in 1982, 1983 and 1984. He was a member of The Valley of Dayton, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and was a Past Commander-in-Chief of Dayton Consistory. He served for several years as a member of the Board of Trustees and was an Honorary 33rd Degree Mason. In addition, he was a Forty Year member of Antioch Temple Shrine; a charter member of the Pipers Bagpipe Unit; a member of the Mound Shrine Club and of the Royal Order of Jesters. He was also a proud member of several York Rite organizations and of numerous other affiliated organizations. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane; daughter, Jill (Ed) Coyan; grandsons, Kyle (Nicole) Schweickart, Steve Schweickart and Nick Massie and brother, Mike (Patty) Massie. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tonia Massie; parents, Homer and Clara Massie and sister, Joan Blake. A Memorial Service will be held in Wellston, Ohio at a later date.
