William "Bill" N. Jones, age 82, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in the comfort of his home in Avon Park, FL. Bill was born on February 23, 1936, in Avon Park, Florida, to the late Marvin and Estelle Jones. Upon graduation from military school, he served in the United States Army as a front-line paratrooper and surveyor. He was a licensed pilot and flight instructor and retired from the Miami Beach Police Department after 20 years of service. After moving back to Avon Park, he was involved in many business endeavors and then became the first Undersheriff for the Highlands County Sheriff’s Department and retired from there after 15 years of service.  Bill’s hobbies included gardening, fishing and reading as well as volunteering at the Highlands County Humane Society. He was a devout Christian and was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jones and daughter, Karen Jones. Bill is survived by his children: Lori Jones Foskey (Rob) of FL: Maureen Gorman of CA; Helen Gorman of FL; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Avon Park, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Humane Society of Highlands County: 7421 Haywood Taylor Blvd.  Sebring, FL 33876.
