Wendell M. Smith, age 92 passed away at his residence in Wauchula, FL on May 22, 2017. He was born on March 12, 1925. Wendell was one of the longest surviving members of the First Baptist Church of Avon Park, he retired from Florida Power in 1980 all while ranching and farming in Hardee County. He was an avid quail hunter and a lifelong resident of this area. He is survived by his children, Winston Smith (Linda) of Wauchula, FL, Marilyn Best (Jimmie) of Bowling Green, FL and Kim Roberts (Monk) of Wauchula, FL. He also leaves behind four grandchildren; Adam Montsdeoca, Rhett Smith (Cara), Ashleigh Swinford (David), and Sidney Roberts, and Five great grandchildren; Carson Montsdeoca, Ty Montsdeoca, Riley Swinford, Will Swinford and Wyatt Smith. Wendell was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Wilma C. Smith and his grandson, Tyler Carnes Roberts. Visitation for Family & Friends will be held at the First Baptist Church of Avon Park starting at 10:00 am on May, 25, 2017 with a service to follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be held at Hart Cemetery in Wauchula, FL.
