Warren Barton Doc Goode, a World War II Marine veteran, 89, of Avon Park, Florida, and previously Toledo, Ohio, peacefully passed away at his home, February 24, 2010. Doc, a native of his much loved Adelphi, Ohio was born September 5, 1920. Doc graduated from Adelphi High School in 1938. Doc then began college at Wilmington University, Ohio. He proudly enlisted in the Marine Corps at the onset of World War II. As a platoon sergeant, he was a drill instructor at Parris Island, S.C. It was in S.C. he met Irene and they soon married. After commanding a unit to guard President Roosevelt, and completing Officer Candidate School he was promoted to second lieutenant and became an instructor at the Marine Corps School in Quantico, VA. Later, he served in the Pacific Islands and in the repatriation of China. Following the war, Doc, completed his college studies. He received his Bachelors Degree from Wilmington College in 1947 and, in 1952, his M.A. in Educational Administration from West Virginia University. Doc served 35 years as a teacher, coach, athletic director and administrator; most of these years (25) were with the Toledo Public Schools. Doc was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Kiwanis, the V.F.W. and the Marine Corps League. He was President of the Lucas County Retired Teachers Assoc., the Northwest Ohio Retired Teachers Assoc. and the Ohio Retired Teachers Assoc. Doc was most proud of his 2002 induction into the DeVilbiss High School Hall of Fame for his distinguished career and outstanding school service and his 1988 Alumni Citation Award from Wilmington College. Doc is survived by his wife, of 65 years, Irene Grace Goode, his daughter Carolyn Suzy Goode McKee (Bill) of Golden, CO, his grandchildren Meredith McKee of Aspen, CO and Greg McKee of Chicago, IL. Doc and Irenes son, Scott, passed away in 1962. He was preceded in death by many Barton relatives from the Adelphi, Ohio area. Docs great loves in life were anything Ohio, the DeVilbiss Tigers, the Marine Corps, his wife Irene, and Suzy, Bill, Meredith, and Greg. Doc lived the Marine Corp motto-Semper Fidelis- always faithful. He will be missed. Doc has requested no service.
