Virginia A. Henderson

Virginia A. Henderson, age 93, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023, in Columbus, Georgia.  She was born August 26, 1929, in Avon Park, Florida to the late Robert L. and Elizabeth (Wilcox) Adams.  She was raised in Avon Park and lived there her entire life until moving to Columbus, GA in 2017.  A 1947 graduate of Avon Park High School, she was also a life-long member of the First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years.  Mrs. Henderson was a well-known figure in the city, serving as Clerk of the City and later as City Manager of Avon Park.  She was also a real estate agent, helping to bring home ownership to many citizens.  She will be remembered as a kind, loving mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her.  She was a devout Christian and served Jesus all her life.  She is survived by her daughter, GiniBeth Henderson of Columbus, GA; son, Samuel Henderson (Theresa) of Maggie Valley, NC; grandsons Rob Henderson and Seth Henderson (Bethany); five great-grandchildren:  Kayden, Piper, Fletcher, Beckett, and William; and sister-in-law Betty Henderson.  Other survivors include nieces Jan Harrison and Cherie Gunn; great nieces Leigh Harrison and Wendy Anderson (Jeff).  Also surviving are nieces Diane Lemler, Becky Henderson, Pat Landress, Lynn Brown, Sherrie Flemming, and Sharyn Henderson; and nephews Craig Landress, Gary Henderson (Leona), and Scott Henderson (Melanie).  Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Henderson and brothers Billy Adams and R.C. Adams (Frances).  Funeral services will be held Friday, July 14, 2023, at 11:00am at First Baptist Church of Avon Park with family receiving friends beginning at 9:30am.  Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Rd, Columbus, GA  31909.
