Timothy Lee Sheffield

Timothy Lee Sheffield, 55, went to be with the Lord July 19, 2016.  He was surrounded by loving family and friends during his final hours at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring, FL.  Tim was born December 13, 1960 in Winter Haven, FL to Dorothy Ann (McCollum) Sheffield and Paul Dudly Sheffield.  Tim always had a positive attitude.  His positive and helpful nature was an example to those who knew him.  Tim loved his family, working family, and friends. Tim was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He was the consummate prankster.  Tim served in the United States Navy from 1979-1985.  He was assigned to the Seventh Fleet- European Theater and later assigned to Military Sealift Command out of Sigonella, Italy.  His final duty was at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL.  Tim began his career with the Florida Department of Corrections in 1989 as a corrections officer at Avon Park Correctional Institution.  He was a founding employee of Hardee Correctional in Bowling Green, FL, where as a Sergeant he established a K-9 unit.  He continued to work his way up the ranks while assigned over the years to the Okeechobee, Martin, and Glades correctional facilities.  In 2013, Tim’s duties brought him back to Avon Park, where he was promoted to Warden.   He Was a member of First Baptist Church of Avon Park. Tim is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Doni Vee (Krause) Sheffield; daughters Tahni and Teal Sheffield; his father, stepmother Brenda (Slover) Sheffield, his mother, sisters Paula Pennell (Daniel) and Staci Gayton (Brady), nephews Adam (Christin) and Ryan Pennell, and his four legged son Clyde.  A celebration of Tim’s life will be held Saturday August 6, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Avon Park, 100 N. Lake Ave. Avon Park, FL 33825. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Good Shepherd Hospice, Bud and Donna Somers Hospice House 1110 Hammock Road Sebring, FL 33870 (863)314-8070.
