Steven J Westenberger

Steven J. Westenberger, age 67, of Avon Park, FL, passed away on Sunday April 22, 2018.  He was born on June 10, 1950 in Clinton, IA to Kenneth and Janet(Lind) Westenberger Weller.  Steven retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Sergeant Major in 1995 after serving his country 28 years.  He then moved to Highlands County and worked as a deputy for Polk County Sheriff’s office in the South County Jail for 10 years.  He was a member of the VFW Post 4300, American Legion Post 69, Amvets, and The Loyal Order of the Moose in Avon Park.  He enjoyed playing golf, camping, refinishing furniture and socializing with friends but most of all he cherished being a Marine.  He is survived by his wife Sandra Bruce of Avon Park; Daughter Jessica Forest (Dustin) of Sebring, FL and their children Elizabeth and Tristan; 3 Step Children Kimberly Saunders (Kevin) of Tallahassee, James Bruce (Xiaoting) of Seattle WA and their children Anthony and Chloe; and Steve Bruce of Avon park; Siblings: Margaret Rettlowski of Clinton Iowa, Linda Copeland of San Diego CA, Melanie Bailey of Foley AL, Jeanette Westenberger of Davenport IA, David Weller of San Francisco CA, Daniel Weller of Camanche IA, and Kenneth Westenberger Jr of Davenport IA; and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.  There will be a Celebration of Life at the VFW in Avon Park on May 12, 2018 at 1:00p.m.
