Steven Averill Fitch, 70, passed away, leaving behind a legacy built on hard work, laughter, and deep devotion to family.

Born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1955, at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, California, Steve was a special gift to his parents, Jim and Meredith Anne Fitch. Being a “Christmas baby” was something that made him unique from the very beginning.

Steve was self-employed for more than 40 years as a residential contractor. With skilled hands and a strong work ethic, he built not only houses, but homes where families created their lives and memories. Later in his career, he ventured beyond self-employment and worked for the government, overseeing commercial construction projects on several military bases across the United States. His knowledge, leadership, and pride in his craft earned the respect of many.

When it came time to retire, Steve returned home to the very first house he ever built — the home where he had raised his family. It was a full-circle moment that reflected the pride he took in his work and the deep roots he planted there.

Above all, Steve was a family man. He is survived by his two daughters, Christy (Chad) Chavis and Amie Nelson. He was a proud grandfather to Bailey (Jonathan) Carnley, Morgan Roberts, Andrew Carney, Parker Carney, and Charlie Nelson, and a delighted great-grandfather to Novalee Anne. His family was his greatest accomplishment and his greatest joy.

He is also survived by his father, Jim Fitch, brothers, Eddie (Donna) and Mike (Tracy) Fitch, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Meredith Anne Fitch.

You rarely saw Steve without a smile on his face. His laugh was infectious, and he had a remarkable way of finding humor in just about everything. He brought lightness into a room and comfort to those around him. His steady presence, quick wit, and warm heart will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.

His legacy lives on in the homes he built, the family he raised, and the countless memories shared with those who loved him.
