Stephen Wendell Roberts, Jr.

Stephen Wendell Roberts, Jr., age 83, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017.  He was born August 19, 1933 in Moore Haven, FL to Stephen W. and Merry (Gantt) Roberts, Sr.  He was Owner & Operator of Ridge Water Filter Systems, Inc. and Ridge Florist, member of the First United Methodist Church of Avon Park, served as the Chairman of the Republican Party for 10 years, Highlands County School Board, Avon Park City Council, Salvation Army, Rotary Club of Avon Park Noon, served in the U.S. Navy in 1952, and has been a lifelong resident of this area.  He is survived by his wife of 58 years – Nell Roberts; Son – Stephen “Buzzy” Roberts, III; Sister – Merry Lynn Phillips of Mt. Dora, FL; Granddaughters – Merry, Anna, Stephanie.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 11:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church of Avon Park with Rev. Richard Stackhouse officiating.  Family will begin receiving friends at 10:30 AM.  He will be laid to rest in Bougainvillea Cemetery.
