STANLEY C. KUWALEK Stanley C. Kuwalek, age 92, a resident of Haleys Cove Community Center at the Tampa VA, passed away on Wednesday, November 17th after a short illness. Born in Harrison, NJ, Mr. Kuwalek moved to Poland with his mother as a young boy, later returning to the United states as a teenager, residing in the NY/NJ area. He entered the Army in 1943 and served in Europe during the invasion of Normandy, then in December of 1944 was captured and held as a POW for 6 months, marching in the Black forest. He later escaped and found his way to an American Camp in Germany. He received a purple heart for injuries sustained in battle. After the war, he worked for many years as a butcher in New Jersey for Haydu Provisions of Newark, later for Best Provisions, then retiring approx.. 1974, whereupon he moved to Florida. He later returned to New Jersey, then Phoenix, Arizona where he lived for many years, again returning to Sebring, FL in 2002 with his wife, Lillian, who predeceased him in June of 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Arleen Liotta of Virginia, 4 grandchildren and 10+ great grandchildren. Two half-brothers: Leonard Kuwalik of Raliegh, North Carolina and Raymond Kuwalik of Tallahassee, Florida. A sister-in-law and her husband, Helen and Joseph Shapiola of New Jersey. Several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home on Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 5:00-7:00 PM. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
