Sophie Alice Koster

Sophie Alice Arnold Koster Alice was born in Rockford, Illinois, March 18, 1928 to Robert Vern Arnold and Louise Bussman Arnold. At her age of two, her parents moved to Miami, Florida. She joined our Lord and Savior on October 31, 2014. Alice grew up in Miami and later Coral Gables, graduating from Miami Senior High School and the University of Miami where she majored in Education. She went on to become a First Grade teacher and then an Elementary School Librarian. Church played a major role in her life and she attended Shenandoah Presbyterian Church in Miami, Granada Presbyterian Church in Coral Gables, First Presbyterian Church in Homestead and Spring Lake Presbyterian Church in Sebring. She was a Sunday school teacher, active on committees, President of Presbyterian Women, a choir member at Spring Lake for 20 years, a Deacon and served as President of Church Women United, Area 6 for many years. In 1957, Alice married Wilfred C. "Bill" Koster. They adopted two children, Warren (deceased) and Candace. Candace married Edward Volz and they reside in Avon Park. They had 2 sons, Joseph (deceased), Robert and a daughter Kayla Volz. She also had a great grandson, Avary born to Robert Volz and Laurie Laeonnett. Alice had a sister and brother-in-law, Hermine Kay (deceased) and Robert Heimgartner of Orange City, FL. Reading occupied much of Alice's life. She was active with Friends of the Library and worked in their bookstore. She also belonged to a reading discussion group and the American Association of University Women. Her hobbies included travel and photography. Alice & Bill covered most of the lower 48 states, parts of Canada and made a few trips to the Bahamas and Cancun, Mexico. A Memorial Service will be held at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church at some time in the future when the family is available. Alice will be missed greatly but we wish a nice trip to her heavenly home.
