Shirley Ann Mercer

Shirley Ann Mercer, age 90, of Sebring, FL, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019.  She was born March 1, 1929 in Waterbury, CT to Robert H. and Hildegarde (Schulze) Watkins.  She received a bachelor’s degree at James Madison University. She started her teaching career at Waterbury and ended at D-Y High School, loved classical music and in younger days played in the orchestra, loved sewing and making quilts.  She was of the Lutheran Faith and lived to read and study religion.  Shirley loved ice cream, the outdoors, watching Mash and The Golden Girls, and has been a resident of Sebring, FL since 2002, coming from Marco Island, FL.  Above all, her greatest love was raising her six children.  She is survived by her Children – Neil G. Mercer of Addison, ME; Stuart D. Mercer of Elkton, VA; Sharon Bassett of Sebring, FL; G. Arthur Mercer of Marco Island and Cape
Cod, MA; William D. Mercer of Addison, ME; Russell C. Mercer of Castle Rock, CO; Melodie Yankey of Weyers Cave, VA; 12 Grandchildren; and 7 Great Grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made in Shirley's name to a charity of choice.
