Shirley J. Franza

Shirley J. Franza, age 86 passed away Friday, June 10, 2011 in Avon Park, Florida. She was born in Molene, Illinois to George W. and Leniah (Holmer) Temple. Mrs. Franza was a legal secretary, member of Union Congregational Church, she taught Sunday school for 18 years, she enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband and spending time with her children, she was an avid supporter of Avon Park High School Sports; she had been a resident of Avon Park since 1949 coming from Due West, South Carolina. Mrs. Franza is survived by her son-Joseph Michael Franza (Lindy) of Avon Park, Florida; daughters-Georgia Ann Murdock (Gayle) of Avon Park, Florida and Susan Carol Buelow (David) of Avon Park, Florida; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mrs. Franza was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Joseph A. Franza. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. in the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home with visitation 1 hour prior to service from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Joe Franza Memorial Scholarship through the Avon Park High School or Highlands County School Board.
