Sherwood “Ben” A. Russell, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 19, 2024, in his home in Avon Park, Florida. Ben was born on January 19, 1938, in Jamestown, New York, to his loving parents Harvey and Allene Russell (Van Rensselaer). Ben served his community and nation by being a member of the National Guard of New York, and through his 25 years of employment as a police officer. He began his career as a police officer at Metropolitan police department in Washington DC, spending two years there and the remainder at Falconer NY Police Department. He was a school bus driver for Falconer NY Central School for twenty-eight years. Ben Displayed honor, courage, bravery, and was a truly admirable role model for his children and grandchildren. He was the captain of Ellington NY fire department and a lifetime member of the Chautauqua County NY trail riders.

Ben is Survived by his wife Sandra K. Russell, Sons; Michael Russell, Patrick Russell, David Russell, Christopher Hermanson, Daughter; Kimberly Gibson, grandchildren; Joshua Russell, Nicholas Russell, Holdon Russell, Chase Russell, Maria Russell, Aderin Russell, Megan Russell, Nicholas Gibson, and Isabelle Hermanson, and nine great grandchildren. Ben is preceded in death by his sister Beverly Olszewski, and his parents.

Ben dedicated his life to ensuring the safety of so many people and families, as well as his own. While he might no longer be here with us, he touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed.
