Sarah Ann Stickle, age 81 passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 26, 2017 in Lake Placid, Florida. She was born July 9, 1936 to the late Ehrman and Lettie Mae (Johnson) Crawford in Macomb, Illinois. Sarah has been a resident of Highlands County since 1992 having moved here from Macomb, Illinois and is a member of Saint James Catholic Church. Sarah’s life was one of caring and giving to others. She taught first grade in Wilson Elementary School in Macomb for 40 years, she was active in her church having served as a Eucharistic Minister and faithful in the homebound ministry. She worked with the Meals on Wheels program and assisted many in receiving their GED. She was a member of the VFW Post 3880, the Elks and the American Legion, all in Lake Placid. She is survived by her two sons: George Daniel and Jon Christopher Stickle–Lake Placid; two grandsons: Jordan Stickle–MN and Nathan Martin–IL; one granddaughter: Whitney Bushong(Nick)–IL; she is also survived by two great-granddaughters: Mayla and Hayden. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 45 years George N. Stickle. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at the Saint James Catholic Church in Lake Placid, Florida. Memorial contributions may be made in Sarah’s memory to the Compassionate Care Hospice, 2153 U.S. 27 South, Sebring, Florida 33870.
