Sara "Sally" J. Currie, age 86, of Sebring, FL passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024. She was born on December 30, 1937, in Saline, MI, to the late Walter and Hazel Cook.  Sally is survived by her devoted partner of 17 years, Don Jones; daughter Lynn Clement (Tim) of Truckee, CA; daughter Julie Currie (Jeff Folker) of Lake Forest, IL, and her son Doug Currie (Chris) of Keego Harbor, MI, as well as her eight beloved grandchildren, Andrew (Amanda), Eric, Tom and Katie Clement, Jason, Lindsay and Jeremy Folker and Kalin Currie.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Douglas Currie, and her brothers: George Cook, Robert Cook, and James Cook.

Sally's life was marked by her dedication to family, education, and community. She had a wonderful childhood growing up in Saline, MI with her big brothers looking out for her.  She graduated from Saline High School in 1954 and then attended Michigan State University, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and graduated with a Bachelor of Art degree in Education in 1959. While in college, Sally spent summers working at Lake Lawn Lodge in Delevan, WI, and that’s where she met and fell in love with Douglas Currie.  They married in July 1958, and thus began a 42-year marriage that lasted until Doug passed away in 2000.

Sally was a much beloved 4th grade schoolteacher at Emerson elementary in Fraser Michigan for 25 years, a role she cherished and excelled at.   Sally retired in 1995, and she and Doug then spent time traveling the country to find a community that could host their next chapter.  After several months of searching, they found their new home at Highlands Ridge in Avon Park Florida. They became an integral part of the community and built lasting friendships where Sally found many wonderful friends who shared her love for golf, card playing and having a good time.

After Doug’s passing, Sally was blessed to find new love with Don Jones, who would be her dedicated and adoring partner for the last 17 years of her life.  They would spend their time together golfing, traveling, playing cards, and giving back to their community.  Sally was honored to be lovingly welcomed into Don’s family with the Jones children; Kim Grant (Rich) Ed Jones, Lori Fagan (Neal) and Mike Jones (Amy), 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

In the end, Sally's greatest joy in life was her family. She was a loving and nurturing presence, always offering a kind word and a warm smile. Her home was always filled with the laughter of her children, grandchildren, and friends. She loved spending time with her family, whether it was during the holidays, on trips, or in the everyday moments that she cherished deeply.

Sally will be remembered as a woman of great kindness, enduring optimism, and deep conviction that everything will be just fine.  Her ever-present smile, contagious laugh, and nurturing spirit touched all who knew her.  She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and joy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
