Sampson Downey

Sampson Downey, age 98 passed away Friday, May 28, 2010 in Sebring, Florida. He was born in Manchester, Kentucky to Benjamin and Pennsylvania (Ponder) Downey. He was an Iron worker in construction, he served in the United States Navy during World War II, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Avon Park, he was a member of the D.A.V. and the Masonic Lodge and had been a resident of Avon Park since 1971 coming from Ohio. He is survived by his son-Gregory Thomas Downey of Tampa, Florida and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 54 years, Rosa Nell Downey and his second wife of 11 years, Eunice Downey. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 4, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. in the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Leman officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (1 hour prior to service). Burial will follow in Bougainvillea Cemetery.
