Ruth E. Tomek

Ruth Elder Tomek passed away on September 7, 2016. She was born in Avon Park, FL on December 23, 1931, to Raphael and Obera (Rutledge) Elder. She was predeceased by her husband: Edward, her parents, an infant sister and a brother: James E. Elder. Ruth is survived by daughters: Becky (Dan) Johnson and Sylvia (Rick) Hayes, sons: Steve (Sandy) and George and sister-in-law: Elaine Hunt Elder of Beaufort, South Carolina. Ruth leaves grandchildren: Jennifer (Mark) Lacienski, Daniel and Andrew Johnson, Stephen (Mychelle) Tomek, Callie Hutson, Corrie (Rob) Foreman; great grandchildren: Paige Tomek, Skyla, Layla, Rayla, and Van Hutson and Julia Grace Foreman. Extended family includes: Wendy and Herby Dixon and their children: Sadie and Allen, Ricky and Heidi Hayes, Nikki Wiltsie and Daegon, Shelby and Rylee Bertka. Ruth was a graduate of Avon Park High School Class of 1949, and enjoyed class reunions and meeting classmates for lunch. She was a telephone operator for over 30 years in Avon Park and enjoyed attending the operator reunion dinners. She loved all her Elder and Rutledge cousins, nieces, and nephews and leaves many in Avon Park, Georgia, and other states. The funeral service will be held on September 9, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Avon Park, FL with Fr. Nicholas McLaughlin officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests those desiring to make a donation, may give to the Church Service Center 198 Rowe St. Avon Park, FL or Avon Park Community Child Development Center 800 S.
