Ruth Barbara "Bobbie" Gumbert, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by love and assurance of her home in heaven on Thursday, April 29, 2015 in Sebring, Florida. She was born on October 27, 1925 in Jamesburg, New Jersey to the late Howard R. and Hattie Ruth (Spooner) Van Dyke. Bobbie was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a homemaker and caregiver, faithfully serving those around her. She was a member of St. John United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughters: Virginia G. (Peter) Moses-New Hartford, CT; Jill G. (William) McGarry-East Granby, CT, sons: Michael D. (Barbara) Gumbert-Puyallup, WA; Charles H. (Lynn Martorell) Gumbert-Falls Village, CT, sister: Esther R. Stoddard-Sebring, FL, sisters-in-law: Dorothy Van Dyke-Mountainside, NJ; Jane Van Dyke-Great Falls, MT, brother-in-law: Harold C. Gumbert-Pittsburgh, PA, twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband: Charles C. Gumbert and two brothers: Rev. Dr. Howard R. Van Dyke and Arthur W. Van Dyke. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, May 2, 2015, beginning at 2:00pm at St. John United Methodist Church with Reverend Ronald DeGenaro, Jr. officiating.
