Ronald James Hernke, 86, of Avon Park, FL, formally of Green Bay, WI, danced into heaven on Friday May 31, 2019 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring, FL, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on February 9, 1933, in Hilbert, WI, to the late George and Viola (Hintz) Hernke. He graduated from Hilbert High school, and enlisted in the Army, where he was involved in the Nike anti-aircraft missile system project. Ron was united in marriage to Judith (Endries) Hernke on December 26, 1955.  He graduated from Michigan Technological University with a degree in Civil Engineering. Ron’s career took him to the Wisconsin State Highway Commission as a Civil Engineer, and later to Ayres Associates, where he was a Regional Vice President until his retirement in 1997. He designed many structures in the Green Bay area during his career. He was the smartest man we knew.

Ron is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judy, his five children, Son, David (Jan) Hernke; Daughters, Karen Kolb; Lori (Mike) Hernke; Susan (Mike) Johnson; Nancy (Roger) Schisel; Sister, Betty Winter; 11 Grandchildren, Ryan, Alyssa, Aaron, Andrew, Mike, Matt, Nicole, Zach, Julia, Corey and Ian; Brother-in-law, Bob Endries; Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father, George, and Mother, Viola, as well as Brother and Sisters-in-law.

There will be a private family celebration of Ron’s life this summer in Wisconsin. Donation to Ron’s favorite charities can be made when the date for the celebration of his life takes place. It’s what he wanted. Online condolences can be made at www.Stephensonnelsonfh.com .  He truly was the best that God makes.
