Robert "Bob" Harold Neidig, 79, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2024, in Sebring, Florida. Born on March 15, 1945, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Bob was the cherished son of the late Roy Neidig and Margaret Neidig Gettle & Step-Father LeRoy Gettle.
Bob served his country honorably, completing two tours in Vietnam as a member of the U.S. Navy Seabees. After his military service, he moved with his family to Alaska in 1970 and there he worked as Grounds Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Anchorage and Anchorage School District Grounds Maintenance.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his children, Hans Robert Neidig (Anna) of Tomball, Texas, and Holly R. Meder (Russell) of Wasilla, Alaska; his siblings, Beverly Royce of North Carolina, Thomas Neidig of Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania, LeRoy Gettle (Cindy) of Tower City, Pennsylvania, and Chris Gettle (Sharon) of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was a devoted grandfather to Jordan, Dawson, and Hans, and a proud great-grandfather to Hayden. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Bob was a man of many passions. He was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, and birding and a great Alaskan adventurer which included long distance dog mushing, running the Iditarod in 1980. He was also an RV enthusiast, taking every opportunity to travel and explore new places. His adventurous spirit was matched by his dedication to physical fitness.
Known for his great sense of humor, Bob was a jokester at heart, the pun master. His light-hearted nature brought joy to those around him, and his ability to make others laugh was one of his most endearing qualities. Yet, beneath his humor was a man of strength, talent, and dedication. He was known to teach the great outdoors to his children and his grandchildren and doting on his great-grandchild.
Bob's faith was an important part of his life, and he was a devoted member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Hamlin, Pennsylvania. His life was a reflection of his values: love for family, dedication to the Reflections community, and a deep connection to the natural world.
Bob's memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched with his kindness, strength, and unwavering sense of humor.
