Robert Gilbert

Robert Gilbert, a lifelong resident of Sebring, Florida, passed away on April 26th, 2025. He was a beloved member of the community, known for his authenticity, unique spirit, and deep love for life’s simple joys.

Robert was the son of Ann and Roy Gilbert. His father owned Gilbert Drugs, a well-known local business, and Robert followed in his entrepreneurial footsteps by owning Highlands Health and Racquet Club. He took pride in fostering wellness and recreation in Highlands County.

He was a devoted father to Haley Stough of Sebring, Florida, and Carly Jones of Sorrento, Florida. His love extended to his siblings, Diane Martin of Blue Ridge, Georgia, Larry Gilbert of Sebring, Florida (deceased) and Terri Jordan of Maitland, Florida. Robert was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, cherishing every moment he spent with them.

Robert’s passions were as vibrant as his personality. He found joy in playing his guitar, taking golf cart rides, and riding motorcycles. He was an accomplished author and an award-winning bodybuilder, embracing both intellect and strength throughout his life. A nature lover at heart, he appreciated the beauty of the outdoors and lived life with deep appreciation for the world around him. He was truly one of a kind—a creature of habit, yet always full of life and energy.

Most of all, Robert treasured his time spent with the love of his life Shelley Bonate and his grandchildren, finding happiness in the moments that mattered most.

A service to celebrate Robert’s life will be held at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring, on May 10th at 2pm. His family invites all who knew and loved him to join in honoring his memory.
