Robert Lee Butz, age 79, born on January 25, 1945, in Toledo, OH, passed away on February 19, 2024, in Sebring, Florida. He was the beloved son of Edward Eugene Butz and Bonnie Jean (Coble) Butz. He is survived by his loving wife Joanne (Kover) Butz of Sebring, FL, and their children: Kelli Bornhorst (Mike), Joe Butz (Jamie), Jim Butz (Angie), and Charlie Butz (Jennifer). He was a caring brother to Jerry (Carol) and preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim. Robert's greatest joys in life were his grandchildren - Alec, Lindsey, Luke, Jack, Kaitlyn, Megan, Brady, Samuel, and Ava. He cherished the time spent with them on the athletic fields, at the lake and family get- togethers, and watching them grow while creating unforgettable memories together. Robert, known to many as Bob, was a dedicated pipefitter in the construction industry and a proud member of Local Union 50 in Toledo, Ohio. Outside of work, Bob deeply impacted his community and school, Whiteford Agricultural Schools, in his hometown of Ottawa Lake, Michigan. He served many years as the President of the School Board as well as President of the Athletic Boosters. He was instrumental in the foundation of the girls’ softball and boys’ elementary, middle school, and JV football programs, also serving as a coach at the varsity level. He left a life-long impression on hundreds of boys, girls, and young men both on and off the field. To so many, it was an honor and a privilege to play and learn under his tutelage and will forever be remembered as Coach Butz.
Aside from his dedication to work and family, Robert was an active member of the Sun-N-Lake Golf Club and a man of faith. He had moved to Sebring 18 years ago from Ottawa Lake, MI, and embraced the community with open arms.
In his free time, Robert enjoyed playing golf, bass fishing, and following his Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers. His passion for these hobbies was surpassed only by his love for his family and the time spent with them.
Rest in peace, Robert Lee Butz, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, coach, and highly respected member of the community. Your legacy of hard work, love, and faith will continue to inspire those who know you.
