Robert J. Beckerich, 83, of Miami, FL passed away September 12, 2016, in Sebring FL surrounded by his family. Robert was born November 22, 1932 in Miami, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Peter and Elva Marguerite (Helbig) Beckerich, first wife, Madell (Gibbs) Beckerich, Brother, Dick Beckerich and daughter, Yvonne Bakich. Bob is survived by his devoted and affectionate wife, Annelies Combs Beckerich and his loyal and loving son, Karl Beckerich of Sebring, FL. Annelies and Bob felt very fortunate to have a second chance with love. They lived only houses away from each other and didn't know one another until cupid shot an arrow their way and brought them together. Bob would often refer to Annelies as "my sweetie" and Annelies would respond with "my lovey dovey". They were endearing to each other like two lovebirds. Upon graduating from Miami Sr. High School in 1950, Bob realized his childhood dream of becoming a member of the United States Coast Guard. After his distinguished service and honorable discharge in 1953, he followed his life's dream by joining the Coral Gables Police Department. During his tenure he was recognized for his leadership and being an outstanding marksman winning numerous awards. He retired after 31 years of dedicated service with the rank of Major. Bob was a compassionate and caring man. He was very fond of his beloved cats offering much time and attention to their safety and well-being. It wasn't surprising when Bob assisted an injured stray by taking her to a veterinarian and saving her life. He was just that kind of man. He was an avid fan of Sunday football and watching golf. He was fascinated with exotic tropical fighting fish. He kept numerous tanks in his garage for his showing and entertainment. He was respected by his colleagues and loved by his friends. Bob always said he was thankful for the childhood he had. It made him into the man he became, moral, noble, unassuming and fair with a quiet strength. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Sunny Hills Assisted Living Facility for providing heartwarming quality care. Memorial donations may be made in Bob's name to Humane Society or SPCA. Commemorative services will be announced at a later date.
