Sebring

Rita Ann (Kelley) O’Hare, 93, of Sebring, FL, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 18, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband John H. O’Hare, and her eldest daughter Mary Sue (Simpson) Beyer. Rita was born in Indiana, PA, on January 11, 1925, and was the third daughter of seven children born to John E. Kelley and Julia A. (Charles) Kelley. Rita graduated from Indiana High School in 1942. While working for American Airlines, she met her husband of twenty-two years, Paul K. Simpson. They were married in 1950 in Paoli, PA, and had five children. They raised their family in Dover, DE, Thousand Island, NY, Norwood, MA, Hooksett, NH, and eventually settled in Amherst, NH, for nearly twenty years. Rita was active in the community: She was a charter member of the Amherst, NH, Garden Club; a member of the Milford, NH, Garden Club; League of Woman Voters; Amherst Junior Women’s Club; National Association of Miniatures and the Michiana Miniatures Guild. She was also involved with Girl Scouts as a co-troop leader. Professionally, Rita worked as an administrative assistant and was an employee of the IRS for a time. She enjoyed bookkeeping and obtained her NH real estate license. Rita married John H. O’Hare in 1992 and lived in Buchanan, MI, before moving to Sebring, FL, in 1996. They were part of the Whisper Circle retirement community before moving to Willow Dale. Rita continued to manage rental properties at Whisper Circle into her 90s, a pursuit she enjoyed immensely. Rita also enjoyed gardening, reading and crafting jewelry. Her favorite hobby was collecting and creating “mini’s,” miniature houses and their furnishings. Rita is survived by her son P. Kelley Simpson and his wife Barbara of Casco, ME; her daughter Ruth Ann Sterling of Keene and Milford, NH; her son Charles T. Simpson and his fiancé Lou-Ann Poor of Dublin, NH; her son Andrew M. Simpson and his wife Norma of Wilton, NH; her stepchildren Michael P. O’Hare, John C. O’Hare, Michele (O’Hare) Miner; along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and step gran children. Following a family graveside gathering in Amherst, NH, there will be a Celebration of Life for Rita on Sunday, July 29, at 1PM, in New Hampshire. The family suggests “in lieu of sending flowers, grow some flowers,” a sentiment they believe Rita would have loved.
