Richard Mark Houghton

Richard Mark Houghton passed away on December 9, 2024 in Sebring, FL. Richard was born in Albany, NY on January 21, 1952 to Dorothy and Jack E. Houghton Sr. He was married to Mary-Ellen (Peeling) Houghton on August 28, 1976. They have one son Evan Houghton (Shari) of Evansville, Indiana.

Richard graduated from Cicero High School, NY and attended Syracuse University. He held many positions before retiring in 2008, most recently being an agent at Keller Williams Realty, Brandon, FL. He is predeceased by his mother and father; his adopted parents, Lee and Kathleen Aicholtz; and his beloved dog Byron.

Richard cherished his time in Alexandria Bay, NY. fishing, hunting and boating on the St. Lawrence River with his family. Living in the Tampa Bay area since 1978, he loved watching the Tampa Bay Rays and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also liked watching Syracuse University basketball. He enjoyed playing tennis and pickleball. He was an accomplished woodworker, who made beautiful and durable Adirondack chairs for many family members and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary-Ellen; his son Evan (Shari); five sisters: Linda Dingman (Clark) of Alexandria Bay; Lois Houghton of Ponte Vedra, FL; Louanne Leonhardt (Larry) of Alexandria Bay and Vero Beach, FL; Terry Larson (Gary) of Jacksonville, FL; Kathy Coker (Bill) of St. Augustine, FL. and one brother, Jack E. Houghton Jr. (Charlene) of Housatonic, MA. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews and dog Rudy.

Richard was a very kind and caring husband, father, brother and friend. He always lent a helping hand to anyone in need and provided for his family, so they could have a wonderful life together. A memorial will be held at a later date in Alexandria Bay, NY.
