Richard E. Cormier, Jr., 74, passed away February 6th surrounded by family who loved him deeply. He has now stepped into eternity in the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born in Rochester New Hampshire to Richard and Alma Cormier, he was a man of deep faith, generous spirit, and unmistakable charm, Richard never met a stranger—only friends he hadn’t gotten to know yet.

In the first chapter of his life, Richard followed his love of golf, serving as a golf pro and perfecting both his swing and his storytelling. Later, he dedicated himself to helping others as a drug and alcohol counselor, where his compassion, understanding, and heart to serve made a lasting impact. Helping people wasn’t just his work, it was his calling. Richard had a gift for laughter and a way of making everyone feel welcome.

His family lovingly shares that he passed in the “perfect sliding position,” as if sliding into home plate before safely waking up in Heaven, greeted by Jesus with open arms.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Alma Cormier, and his beloved sister, Sandy Duarte. He is survived by his brother, Keith (Denise) Cormier; his daughter, Kelly Purvis; his son, Richie (Gina) Cormier III; and his cherished grandchildren: Cali and Maci Purvis, and Casi and Rich Cormier IV.

One of Richard’s greatest joys was watching his family play sports as he cheered loudly, proudly, and with endless love. Richard will be remembered for his humor, his faith, his servant’s heart, and the way he made everyone feel seen, valued, and cared for.

His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the family he adored, and the countless memories he leaves behind.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Community Bible Church, located at 1400 County Road 17A North, Avon Park, Florida 33825. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Richard’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hardee High Baseball, Hardee Middle School Volleyball, or the Avon Park Lakes Baptist Upward Program, where his grandchildren play and thrive, thus honoring his love for family, sports, and community.

Arrangements entrusted to: Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home Sebring, Florida www.stephensonnelsonfh.com
