Richard A. Miller, of the Bluffs of Sebring, Florida, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2011, two days after his 94th birthday, from complications of a stroke. Funeral service will be conducted by Pastor A.C. Bryant at the First United Methodist Church, 126 South Pine Street, Sebring, on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Additional services will be held at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut Street, in Meadville, PA, on Saturday, October 1, 2011, with visitation from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., and a Prayer Service following at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Miller was born in Meadville, the son of Hazel and Wallace Miller on September 24, 1917. After graduating from Meadville High School in 1935, he began his sales career at Channellock, Inc. (formerly Champion DeArment Tool Company). After serving four years (1941-1945) in the United States Army (World War II European Theatre), he returned to his job at Channellock and retired in 1979, after 42 years of service. In 1982 he and his wife Ruth Mason (married in 1946) moved to Sebring, Florida. She preceded him in death in January, 2001. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sebring (served as head usher for many years), the Sebring Municipal Golf Club, the VFW and the American Legion. Throughout his life, he enjoyed golf, photography, traveling, flower gardening and Penn State and Steeler football. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Walls Miller (married in June, 2004); his son, Douglas (Marilyn) Miller of St. Louis; his daughter, Janis (Randy) Luvaas of Yakima, Washington and his grandson, Riley Luvaas, studying at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. Other survivors include his brother, Donald (Kay) Miller of Lakeland, FL; four nieces; three nephews; 11 great nieces and nephews and three great great nieces and nephew. Surviving in-laws include Doris Recchia, Blaine and Wayne Eppehimer and their families and Sharyn Madison and her family. His parents and his brother, Darwin Miller preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, FL 33870; the Youth Choir Ministry at First United Methodist Church in Sebring or Heartland Christian School, 1160 Persimmon Avenue, Sebring, FL 33870.
