Reuben D. Golden

December 16, 1925 — February 9, 2017

Reuben David Golden, age 91, of Sebring, Florida, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at his home. Reuben was born on December 16, 1925 to Robert and Maude (Bailey) Golden on the farm where he lived for 21 years. He entered the Military service in 1945 and had 16 weeks of basic infantry training in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was sent overseas in 1946 and had military police training in Romilly, France. He served in the 787 M.P. Service Battalion in France in several areas first as a military policeman then a chaplain’s assistant and later as clerk typist for Headquarters Co. completing his 18 months of service. After coming home, he married his fiancée, Geneva Maas on March 12, 1947 in the Manito Community Methodist Church. They spent two years on the farm and after building a home they moved to Manito, IL in 1948. At that time, Reuben began working for Commonwealth Edison Co. Powerton Station where he worked for 35 years. In 1957 they made the move to Pekin, IL and again in 1991 moved to Sebring, FL. All his life, Reuben has been a faithful and active member of a church belonging to United Methodist Men and the Carraway Sunday school class of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Geneva and one daughter, Melody. He is survived by two sons, David (Lucy) Golden of Parlin, NJ, Grant (Peggy) Golden of Pekin, IL; two grandsons, Max (Melissa) Golden of Sebring, FL, Andrew (Scotty) Golden of Dunellen, NJ; three granddaughters, Marnie Golden of Brooklyn, NY, Bryn Golden of Janesville, WI, Katie (Jonathan) Plouff of Old Bridge, NJ; one great-grandson, Jaycob Golden; and two great granddaughters, Caroline and Ariana Plouff; two brothers, Phillip Golden of Manito, IL and Lowell (Nola) Golden of Montrose, CO. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 20, 2017, 11:00 AM, at First United Methodist Church of Sebring.
