On the morning of Friday June 23, 2023 Randolph (Randy) Kempain, 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Bud and Donna Somers Hospice House in Sebring, FL. Randy was born in Putnam, CT on 9/26/1951. He was predeceased by his parents, Rudolph Kempain and Flora Kolat. He is survived by his wife, Sheryl (Nelson), son Clayton (wife Beth), daughter Tiffany (husband Sean), grandsons Layne and Loxley, and brothers Bruce (wife Cookie) and R. Stephen (wife Pam). Randy served in the Army from 1972-1974. He then earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, working for Crystal Water Company/Connecticut Water for 33 years. Randy was an avid largemouth bass fisherman and a low handicap golfer. He loved muscle cars, especially his ’69 Chevelle SS. He ran several marathons, including the 2005 Boston Marathon, as a qualified runner. He was a dedicated grandfather and spent many hours at the lake house teaching the boys to fish. Randy and Sheryl retired in 2010 and became Florida residents in 2013.
A memorial service will be held July 23, 2023 at Westfield Congregational Church in Danielson, CT at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Change of Pace (Adult Day Care) 4514 Hammock Road Sebring, FL 33870 or the Bud and Donna Somers Good Shepherd Hospice House 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, FL 33870.
