Phyllis A Manar

July 12, 1925 — March 5, 2015

Phyllis (Penne) Manar died Thursday, March 5, 2015, after a short illness; she was 89 years old. Penne was born in Detroit. She married Wallace Manar in 1944 and raised three children. She was constantly working to improve her skills and abilities, eventually rising to the position of Executive Secretary to the Mayor of Detroit. She and Wally retired to Sebring in 1975. Not content to remain in retirement, she went to work as a Deputy Clerk of the Court in Highlands County. She was active in many organizations, including Sweet Adeline's, Habitat for Humanity, and the Red Hat Mommas of Avon Park. She served as a volunteer at Florida Hospital in Sebring, amassing over 15,000 hours. She also volunteered at the Church Service Center in Avon Park. She served in numerous positions while a member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church of Avon Park. She is survived by sons Gerald and Randy Manar, her sister and brother Sharron and James Probyn, as well as 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Remembrances may be given to Resurrection Lutheran Church, Habitat for Humanity, or the Church Service Center of Avon Park.
