Muriel Ruth Asselin Barker
Muriel Ruth Asselin Barker, 61, born on June 10, 1957 in Enfield, CT and passed away on October 3, 2018 in Sebring, Florida. Born the fifth child of eight to Robert and Merle Asselin, she spent some of her childhood in Connecticut and some in New Hampshire. She graduated from Conant High School in Jaffrey, NH and went in the Marine Corps for a three year tour. She was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC for most of the three years where she met her first husband and had her first child, Jesse. Following her term in the Corps she relocated to New Hampshire. It was here that she met her second husband and had her youngest son Alan. This family of four moved to CT where they spent the next twenty-five years in Danbury, CT. During that time she obtained her BS in nutrition and became a dietitian. She also took up tennis when she was in her 40’s. She moved to Florida in 2008 and loved living here since then. She met her current husband Dave and they were married in 2015. Her hobbies included tennis and her wonderful group of friends from this great hobby. She also loved kayaking and nature photography. A recent passion was jewelry making.
She is survived by her wonderful husband, Dave, her two awesome sons; Jesse (Katie), Alan (Erica) Schmitt and her mom, Merle Buck and seven siblings; Chris (Jim) Guerrieri of AZ, Bob (Mary) Asselin of NV, Sue (Tim) Collins of MA, Nancy Delgado of CA, Norman Asselin of NH, Miriam (Doug) Weisz of LA, Ruth (Ross) Harwood of CA and many, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She sadly leaves behind lots of family and many wonderful friends.
Favorite movie quote; “I was born a poor black child”. Steve Martin “The Jerk”. My favorite movie…it cracks me up every time. She recently watched it again and it seems to me to be about finding ourselves…finding our place in this world. This has been a lifelong quest for me and I’m grateful for all the help I’ve had along the way.
