Mickey Bowman passed away on November 30th. Mickey lived most of his life in Washington County Virginia. He was the youngest of three boys of the late Gene Bowman and Mina Bowman Haluska. In addition to his parents Mickey was preceded in death by his oldest brother Max Bowman and wife Kitty. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shelia Thompson Bowman, his son Tim Bowman and family and son Andy Bowman and family. He is also survived by his brother Jax Bowman and wife Sally, and his stepmother, Mabel Bowman. Mickey is also surveyed by two step-sisters who were as much family as anyone could be to him, Hope Hale and husband Tom, and Frankie Bielawski and husband Bob. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends. He graduated high school in Abingdon Va. and attended Emory & Henry College. He served 3 years in the US Army before returning to Southwest Virginia. He worked 30 years for the Washington County Service Authority. At the same time, he was a licensed professional horse trainer. Over the years, he raised, trained and showed countless numbers of Tennessee Walking Horses. His most beloved always remained the well known and respected Mr. Masterful. Together they claimed 79 blue ribbon shows. Mickey and Shelia owned and operated several businesses in the area. Among them were Singingwood Kennels, Singingwood Karkway and an internationally recognized home based business operating under the banner of MyWayWorks Marketing. He founded Singingwood Stables and operated it until his health declined forcing him to retire in 2013. At that time, he and Shelia began the process of moving to Florida. Soon after the move, his progressive Alzheimer’s disease forced Mickey to become a resident of a nursing home. He remained there until his death. Mickey lived his life as a hard working, honest and generous person. He loved his family and friends with a strong conviction. He said many times,
“When I die, don’t cry for me. I’ve had a wonderful life.” Alzheimers stole the life he loved, but it never took his sweet spirit and kind heart.
