Mike Disler (Michael Marvel Disler) passed away peacefully at home in Sebring, Florida on February 19, 2024 at the age of 80. He was born on November 6, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas to the late Delbert and Bettye (Marvel) Disler. Mike grew up in Oakland City, Indiana. He played varsity basketball and baseball at Oakland City High School and was editor of the yearbook and active in student government, including going to Boys State. Mike graduated from the Indiana University school of business in 1965 and the Indiana University law school in 1971. He was a member of the Indiana, Florida, and the United States Supreme Courts.
In Zionsville, Indiana he was a judge, prosecutor, and attorney. He coached and umpired Little League baseball for many years for his sons Darren and Dodd. He belonged to many civic organizations in Indiana always serving as a leader. In his younger days, Mike enjoyed playing softball and golf, fishing, and excelled at pool, table tennis, bridge, and poker. Mike was an avid Indiana University basketball fan all of his life! He loved Sanibel Island so much that he decided to buy a condo in 1980. He loved walking on the beach and shelling. He and Carole had an extensive shell collection. After Hurricane Ian flooded the condo on September 28, 2022, they were able to salvage some of their precious shell collection, but everything else was lost. He has been an integral part of the rebuilding process on Sanibel as President of the board of directors of Blind Pass Condominium Association. Unfortunately, he will not be able to see the restoration to completion. In 1986, when he moved to Sebring, Mike continued to practice law until his death. He was the city attorney for Avon Park for many years and an attorney at Trombley, Schommer, Lobozzo, Accorsi, and Disler. In Sebring, Mike was a past Exalted Ruler in the Elks and a former member and president of the Avon Park Rotary. Mike has served on the Highlands County Value Adjustment Board since 2009. He was also currently serving as the president of the Blind Pass Condominium Board of Directors on Sanibel Island, Florida. He has served for more than 30 years and has been the president for the past 20 years. Mike is the current president of the congregation and board of directors at Faith Lutheran Church. Mike loved his family and cherished the precious memories of time spent with them. He was very proud of his sons and their families and called them his legacy. Mike is survived by his wife of 59 years Carole Hoeltke Disler in Sebring, FL; Sons: Darren Disler (Sally) of Parker, CO and Dodd Disler (Heather) of St. Petersburg, FL; Grandchildren: Katelyn, Blake, Lauren, and Drew; and Sisters: Martha Clark (Greg) of Louisville, KY and Jennifer Green (Tom) of Owensboro, KY. A memorial celebration of life service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 2, 2024. Visitation with the family will precede the service beginning at 9:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to the Mike Disler Memorial Fund for Faith Lutheran Church (LCMS), 2740 Lakeview Drive, Sebring, FL 33870.
