Merritt E. Garnett, age 98, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, July 16, 2017 in Sebring, Florida. He was born on June 1, 1919 in Flint, Michigan to the late William M. and Jennie M. (Dewar) Garnett. Merritt was a veteran proudly serving our country with the United States Army. He spent 45 years of his career working for Wolverine Candy and Tobacco Company. Merritt moved to Crystal Lake Club in 1987 from Michigan and became very involved. He even began Bingo. Merritt was a member of the American Legion, Resurrection Lutheran Church in Avon Park, enjoyed golf and loved his wife, family and church very much. Survivors include his wife of 78 years, Grace Garnett of Sebring, FL; daughter Jeannine Schumaker (Ray) of Pennsylvania; Grandchildren Kenneth (Michelle) of Pennsylvania; Donald (Kimberly) of Pennsylvania; Darryl (James) of Florida and Great-Grandchildren Jared, Ksenia and Grant. He is preceded by his parents, brother Russell Garnett and sister Vera Haverhill. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Fairway Pines, 5959 Sun n Lake Blvd. Sebring, FL 33872 with Rev. John C. Grodzinski officiating.
