Melvin White
November 4, 1938 – July 19, 2025
Melvin White, 86, of Sebring, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025.
Born on November 4, 1938, Melvin lived a full life marked by curiosity, service, and deep connections with those around him. A proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Melvin served his country with dedication and carried that same spirit into civilian life. He had a lifelong passion for antique radios and could often be found tinkering away—whether during his time in the service or later at home—always eager to learn how things worked and to bring old treasures back to life.
Melvin also had a love for auctions, where he combined his appreciation for history with his knack for finding hidden gems. In his later years, his home in Sebring became not just a place of residence but a hub of friendship and neighborly love. His close bond with neighbors Alberto and Bruce brought him joy, laughter, and comfort. They were not just neighbors—they were family.
Melvin is survived by his sister, Rita King; his nephew, Brad King; and his beloved neighbors, Alberto and Bruce, who were an integral part of his life. He is predeceased by his sister, Betty Schaffer; his long time companion, Doris Bennitt.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his quiet wisdom, and his enduring love of discovery and community. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Melvin's honor to the Disabled Veterans of America Foundation. There will be a box below, where to can donate directly.
