Mary Louise Smoak of Sebring Florida went peacefully home to be with her Lord Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Good Shepherd Hospice’s Somer’s House in Sebring, Florida. She was born in Sebring to John S. and Claribel (Spencer) Pickett in 1926. Her family moved to Highlands County in 1917 from Callahan, Florida. She was a graduate of Sebring High School and a proud member of Prof Gustat’s band. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sebring. She shared her love of Christ by teaching Sunday School for over 50 years and serving on the flower committee. She was also active in Sebring’s Historical Society and Girl Scouts. Louise retired from the telephone company after 38 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Mal Pickett and Spencer Pickett. She is survived by her husband of 69 years of marriage, Vincent Legare Smoak, Jr. of Sebring; daughter, Barbara Gourley (David) of Avon Park, Florida; one grandson, Charles Wesley “Wes” Clemens, IV (Teresa) of Sebring, Florida; two great-grandchildren, Kayla Clemens of Sebring, Florida and Kyle Clemens of Sebring, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held for family and friends Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 2 PM at Bougainvillea Cemetery in Avon Park with Chaplain Cecil Kent of Good Shepherd Hospice leading her Celebration of Life ceremony.
