Mary L Mixon

Mary L. Mixon, 63, of Avon Park passed away Monday, July 4, 2016. She was born June 6, 1953 in Kansas City, MO to Kenneth R. and Darlene M. (Tierney) Cowper. Mary moved to Avon Park in 1981 from Kansas City, MO and retired from the Sunrise Community of Polk County. She was a very active member of the Florida Avenue Baptist Church and she loved “Women in Mission” and Bible studies. Mary had a passion for visiting and caring for people; especially elderly people. She enjoyed sewing and especially spending time with her family and church family. Survivors include her loving husband of 31 years, Max; daughters, Linda Flowers, Karen Frazier, Jennifer Minichino and Nichol Young; brothers, William Cowper and Kenneth Cowper; sisters, Darlene Baker, and Colleen Kizer, and nine grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; sister: Linda M. Cowper; and brother: Patrick L. Cowper. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Avon Park, FL. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Florida Avenue Baptist Church in Avon Park. Memorial Contributions may be made to Florida Avenue Baptist Church at: 401 S.
