On May 21, 2026, Mary Alice Lamont McCall, age 96, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord after a life marked by faithful service, deep love for her family and unwavering devotion to her Savior, Jesus Christ. Born on March 11, 1930, Mary Alice grew up in Boca Raton, Florida, where she excelled in sports and was voted Most Athletic during her senior year of high school. In June 1953, she married Jay McCall, the love of her life and devoted husband of 61 years. While raising their young children, Mary Alice watched a Billy Graham crusade on television and committed her heart to Jesus, a decision that transformed her life. Soon after, Jay also accepted Christ and later answered God’s call to ministry. Together they faithfully served churches in Mississippi and Florida for many years. Mary Alice joyfully led children’s choirs and taught adult Bible studies in the churches they served. She also ministered to hundreds of children and families in Florida as an elementary school teacher. A beloved mother and grandmama, Mary Alice delighted her family with homemade cookies, cinnamon rolls and her famous rolls (“rollos”). She lovingly created quilts and paintings for family members, gifts that will continue to remind them of her love for years to come. After Jay’s death in 2014, Mary Alice continued serving others through the homeless ministry of First Baptist Church of Sebring, Florida. In 2019, she moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where she became a resident of The Oaks on Parkwood. There she developed a prayer ministry to residents, staff and their families, becoming widely known as a faithful prayer warrior. She was also an active member of The Baptist Church at McAdory, participating in Women on Mission and the JOY senior adult ministry. Mary Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Jay McCall; her daughter, Ila McCall Cox; and her granddaughter, Kinsley Lauren Cox. She is survived by her children, Alice McCall Lyon (Ralph), Jim McCall (Debbie) and Bill McCall (Robin); seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many others whose lives were touched by her prayers, kindness and steadfast faith. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts in Mary Alice’s memory be made to the Ila and Kinsley Cox Living Memorial Fund which provides assistance to seriously ill or injured children and seriously ill or injured parents with minor children in their home.
