Martin L. Griffin

August 11, 1943 — July 24, 2025

Sebring

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Martin L. Griffin, formerly of Wellington and Tampa, Florida. Marty passed away on July 24, 2025, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring, Florida. Born on August 11, 1943, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late John and Rita Griffin, Marty was raised in South Tampa after his family moved to Florida in the early 1950s.

He attended Christ the King Parochial, Jesuit High School (Class of '61), St. Pete Jr. College, and the University of Dayton. In 1967, Marty honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, with "boots on the ground" in Vietnam. He was proud to have been awarded the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal for his service. Upon returning to Tampa, Sgt. Griffin found his calling in sales and marketing with So. Mill Creek Products.

In 1970, Marty married Barbara (née Karup of Tampa), and together they embarked on a lifetime of adventure, traveling, relocating, and forging lasting friendships. After 17 years with SMCP, they moved to Wellington, Florida, where Marty specialized in products for the golf course and polo field industries.  Marty was a past member of the Florida TurfGrass Association, Futures of Golf, and the Treasure Coast-Palm Beach and South Florida Golf Course Superintendents Association. He enjoyed a good debate, playing his guitar, and a good game of chess. He loved all sports, and golf became his passion in later years, proudly scoring two hole-in-ones. After 35 years in Wellington, Marty and Barbara retired to Sebring, Florida.

Marty is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Griffin; his sister, Diane Griffin of Tampa; and his brother, Greg Griffin (Barbara) of Pompano Beach, Florida. Marty was a beloved son, brother, husband, brother-in-law, uncle (great and great-great), nephew, godfather, cousin, and a friend to many. He will be deeply missed.

Per Marty's wishes, there will be no service. The family extends their sincere gratitude for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
