Marie Holmes

MARIE HOLMES Marie Holmes, age 97, of Lake Placid, Florida, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013, in Lake Placid. She was born October 31, 1915, to Aarie and Marie (Bott) Vollegraaf in St. Paul, Minnesota, and had been a resident of Lake Placid since 1998, coming from Holiday, Florida. She was a homemaker and a member of Spring Lake Presbyterian Church. She had been a Girl Scout Leader and was an active church choir member for more than 60 years. She loved to bake, especially her Yum-Yum Bars and also enjoyed working in the yard, where flowers were her specialty. She loved her family with all of her heart and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin K. Holmes and her two sisters and is survived by three daughters; Joanne M. (Richard) Read, Sebring, FL; Carol A. (Bruce) Vannelli, Plymouth, Minnesota and Janet L. (Bill) Wolfe, Chittenden, Vermont; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church, with Rev. John Davis and Jack Ulmer officiating.
