Marguerite R. Hitt

Marguerite Ruth Hitt, age 73, of Sebring, FL, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018.  She was born July 18, 1944 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to John and Eloine Selby.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 54 years – Richard; Three Sons – Rick (Jayma) of Sebring, FL, Scott (Gina) of Sebring, FL, and Harold (Ginny) of Oveido, FL; Six Grandchildren – Cassady, Sydney, Jake, and Olivia of Sebring, FL, and Dalton and Andi of Oveido, FL; Four Nieces – Terri, Kelly, Pam, and Chrissy; and three Nephews – Billy, Devin, and Ladson.  Ruth was preceded in death by her parents – John and Eloine; sister – Kathy; and three brothers - John, Albert, and Harold.

Ruth moved to Sebring with her family in 1976 from Fernandina Beach, she was employed in the banking industry and also in the newspaper advertising sales at the former Sebring News.  She was also a lawyer’s assistant in Sebring, and a crew leader for the census bureau.

Ruth was very active in the community serving as President of the former SHS High School Booster Club for many years, active in cub scouts state wide for many years, assisted in local Dixie Youth baseball for years as her sons played and husband coached, and assisted with the Faith Lutheran Church day school for years.  She was a word master and loved to do crossword puzzles, especially the challenging New York Times Sunday puzzle.  Ruth was a huge Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan with her husband Richard.  They started attending games in 1976 and continued for many years.  She was also a long time Sebring Blue Streak and South Florida State College fan and supporter.  Ruth enjoyed bowling and fishing with her family and was a terrific dancer.  She attended Bible Fellowship Church and was a friend to all she came in contact with.

A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church Day School in the name of Ruth Hitt.
