Margaret “Peg” Whitehead, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2026,in Sebring, Florida. Born on September 23, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, Peg was the daughter of Lester and Mary (Kessler) Dietz. She and her husband, Frank, and five children moved to Sebring in 1963. They welcomed a sixth child in 1967. Peg dedicated 30+ years to education, first as a teacher at Sebring Middle School, and she ultimately retired in 1999 as the assistant principal at Cracker Trail Elementary School. She completed her master’s degree in education and briefly worked on a PhD. She impacted thousands of students and families in the community. Peg was a woman of many talents and interests. She had a deep love for music, played the cello, sang with the Highlands Community Chorus, and performed with the Highlands County Orchestra. She was a member of St. Agnes Episcopal Church and sang in the choir for many years. She was an avid painter and scrapbooker, a voracious reader, and she loved to travel. Peg was known for her creativity, and vibrant spirit. She is survived by her loving children: Gayle Barrett of Daytona, Florida; Chip Whitehead(Beata) of Phoenix, Arizona, John Whitehead (Susie) of Sebring, Florida, and Rich Whitehead(Laura) of Arlington, Virginia. She also leaves behind 14 cherished grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward. Peg was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 50+ years; her daughters, Lynda and Tricia, siblings, Richard Dietz and William Dietz; and other cherished family members. The family will have a private celebration of life, and they ask, in lieu of flowers, for donations to be sent to Good Shepard Hospice in Sebring.
