Marco Bartolomeo, age 97, of Avon Park, FL, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, September 30, 2023. He was born on December 3, 1925, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to his parents Daniel DiBartolomeo and Gemma (Conz). He began his education at Gladstone Jr. High School and went on to learn at Conley Vocational School. Mr. Bartolomeo worked as an electronic technician at Saint Frances hospital, went on to be a welder for B&O Railroad before serving in our nations Navy in 1944 and going on to volunteer in the United States Marine Corps. After being Honorably discharged in May of 1946, He worked for a streetcar company. On October 6, 1951, Mr. Bartolomeo was married to his late wife of 50 years Ruth Irene Bartolomeo (Schmidt). Mr. Bartolomeo then went on to work for and retired from Westinghouse after 29 years of dedicated service. During his employment as a high-level electronic technician, he played a key role on several projects. He was instrumental in the design and manufacture of the nuclear reactor in the Nautilus Submarine and was awarded a medal of recognition for his contribution to the success and development of this project. He worked on the NERVA project consisting of the nuclear engine development for interspace travel, as well as nuclear reactor powered heart machines. Marco was gifted with the ability to do many things in life and proved his excellence in working with both his mind and hands. He was selfless and often dedicated his time volunteering on many projects, as well as passion projects of his own. He had a gorgeous sprawling garden where he spent much time carefully tending to his plants, he had a knack for building flyable model airplanes and rockets and made beautiful birdhouses. In his retirement years he volunteered many hours at the Orange Blossom Church campground in Avon Park. He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings; Alise, Gino, Daniel, Guy, Julie and Edward, and his sons; Daniel R. Bartolomeo and Daniel Rayford. He is survived by his wife Phebe M. Bartolomeo (Barter), his children, Mark Edward, Gemma Ruth, John Russel, Shirley Mae, Lois Marie, and Scott Raymond, and His sister Virginia.
Marco Bartolomeo touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed. Services for Mr. Bartolomeo will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the Avon Park Church of Nazarene with friends and family visitation beginning at 10 A.M. A funeral service beginning at 11 A.M. and concluding with a burial service being held at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Avon Park.
