Marcelle Wilkerson

Marcelle Wilkerson, 87, of Avon Park, Florida went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 10, 2022. Born in Mascotte, Florida, she has been a resident of the area since 1953. A loving Mother and Grandmother who enjoyed the time spent with her family and friends, she loved her church and was a lifelong member of the Union Congregational Church in Avon Park, Florida. Marcelle was the proud owner of Classie Transportation, a non-emergency medical transport company. She drove a School Bus for Highlands County for 20 years with the title of being the first woman school bus driver for Highlands County. This was followed by her employment with Annett Bus lines for many years. Marcelle loved to work, and she dedicated her life to others. She touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed. Marcelle was preceded in death by her parents – Henry and Ester Wilkerson; her son – Ernest Kopta; her brothers – Raymond Wilkerson, Melvin Wilkerson, Henry Lee Wilkerson, Dickey Slade, and Wayne Wilkerson; and her sisters – Gladys Tripp Bailey, Neldean Wilkerson, Marie Russo, and Sheila Wilkerson. She is survived by her son – Kurt Kopta; her daughter – Kita Kopta; her sister – Pansy Broda; along with her granddaughter – Kaila Albritton and family. Graveside funeral services will take place on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the Bougainvillea Cemetery in Avon Park, Florida beginning at 3:00 PM. A Memorial Service will follow on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the Union Congregational Church in Avon Park, Florida beginning at 11:00 AM. It is the family’s wish that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Marcelle's name to the Compassion Care Hospice in appreciation of the kindness and compassion they provided to Marcelle and many others.
