Malakias Guevara (Laking also fondly called “Boss” by his brothers & sisters- in-law; “King “by his cousins, nieces, and nephews) was born to Melquiades Guevara and Taciana Calaminos on 2/21/1932. He was the 3rd of 4 children (Benjamin, Virgil ‘Voden’ deceased & Naomi Emma -deceased). He studied Bachelor of Science in Education at Philippine Union College (now, Adventist University of the Philippines) putting himself through school as a working student. While there he met Ofelia Febre (Fel) and they got married on 6/19/1966. Both Laking & Fel worked as teachers of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) school system. They pioneered the Palawan Adventist Academy. He was the first principal of the school. They later relocated to the USA and settled in Avon Park, FL where they had been living since 1983. They both worked as cook/dietary aides for 30 years at Hillcrest Nursing Home, now Royal Care, until they retired. Laking has always been known as mild mannered and had become popular for his homemade gluten and cinnamon rolls. Laking will be missed by everyone that knew him. He is survived by his wife Ofelia, oldest brother Pastor Benjamin (Emma) and Helen Guevara Rosete, niece (daughter of his youngest sibling Naomi Emma, who is now deceased), and other Nephews and Nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Virgil ‘Voden’ and sister Naomi Emma.
