LT. COLONEL JAMES MURPHY McDONALD, RETIRED Lt. Colonel James Murphy McDonald, Retired, age 92, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011 in Sebring, FL. He was born in Hamlet, NC on December 17, 1918 to Joseph Murphy and Pearl (Swaim) McDonald. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lt. Colonel, serving during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, and the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. He was a resident of Sebring since 1973 coming from Holyoke, Massachusetts. He is survived by his sons James M. (Jannette) McDonald, Jr., Scottsdale, AZ and John R. (Kathleen Johnston) McDonald, Nashville, TN; sister Josephine Rees, Rockhill, SC, 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Stphenson-Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 1 hour before service time beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery on Monday, June 27, 2011 with full Military Honors.
